How to Style an Asymmetric Skirt

How to Style an Asymmetric Skirt

Hi Everyone,

One of the most unusual skirt trends that’s on the up this summer is the asymmetric skirt line. It seems to be you either need a simple asymmetric skirt or a short skirt with long piece of fabric trailing off to one side. I tend to think of this as giving the skirt a viel – haha! However funny it may sound the trend was well spotted throughout both Milan and Paris during the February fashion weeks.

In any case I felt now was the perfect time to get out my favourite asymmetric skirt that’s been on vacation in the wardrobe for several seasons now.

Asymmetric skirts or dresses for that matter tend to be the most feminine and interesting pieces in a woman’s wardrobe. However there are a few tricks to styling them correctly. This post outlines three basic tricks that will ensure your asymmetric skirt outfit looks great every time!

  1. Limit the number of colours in your outfit

An asymmetric skirt wants the focus to be on it, hence it’s best to limit the number of colours in your outfit.

Many colours will make the outfit seem too busy and confusing or even worse, messy.

2. Colour block where possible

To get the most out of any asymmetric skirt outfit it is best to stick with plain colours – colour blocking wherever possible. If your skirt is already patterned be sure to wear a plain top.

If you really want to wear a patterned top stick to simple patterns such as clean stripes.

The main thing to keep in mind is that an asymmetric skirt is already a busy piece of clothing so it’s important to keep the rest of the outfit as simple as possible.

3. Stick to simple accessories

For an asymmetric outfit to really pop, pair it with a plain coloured bag that matches either the top or bottom of your outfit.

Today I’ve chosen this lovely Parisian black bag from MASHA KEJA.
