5 Facts That Really Make the Park Hyatt Paris - Vendome One of the Best Hotels in Paris

Hi Everyone,

Anyone who’s following me on social media will know that I’ve just spent 5 wonderful days in Paris celebrating my Mum’s 85th Birthday. Something I can really recommend!

One of the highlights of the trip was certainly our stay at the Park Hyatt Paris – Vendome. Birthday balloons, chocolate cake and champagne were the Birthday treats to top it all off…

Nothing better than sipping champagne whilst looking down onto the beautiful Place Vendome.

However there is much more than initially meets the eye behind this luxurious hotel which first opened in 2002 – making it the first ever contemporary hotel in Paris.

The entrance to the hotel is very discreet. So much so that despite being located right at the Place Vendome our taxi driver initially drove right past and had to double back.

This has been done on purpose to maintain the feeling of being a typical Parisian mansion. Before being a hotel the building used to be the headquarters of Maison Paquin Haute Couture.

  1. The architect was Ed Tuttle

Ed Tuttle was an American architect who became famous with his designs of the stunning Aman Resorts and introducing the first ever black infinity pool. Among his most celebrated works is the Amanpuri hotel in Phuket.

Asian influences become evident in the Park Hyatt Paris – Vendome‘s 153 rooms and 43 suites’. Β Attributable to Ed Tuttle having spent a large amount of time in Asia prior to returning to Paris. Plain beige and dark-brown colour palette, with ornate golden touches – the insignia for Asian nobility. A colour palette which is the hype for Summer 2022 too!

He was also a good friend of the Pritzker family (owners of the Hyatt Corporation) and assisted in designing one of their family homes.

2. Tailor made unique Jim Thompson fabrics

All of the silk fabrics on furniture and adorning the walls have been uniquely designed for the Park Hyatt Paris – Vendome by Jim Thompson. The most Β luxurious Thai silk company today! Note how the colours of the chairs in this room flow so perfectly with the painting at the back – no mistake of course!

Jim Thompson was an American architect and art collector born in 1906. After serving as a military officer in World War II, he settled in Bangkok. At that time, however, the craft of silk weaving was in steep decline. He dedicated his life to organising a network of artisans, helping to upgrade their looms, introducing new techniques and designs. Enabling Thai weavers to create silks that would dazzle the world. By 1950 he had founded The Thai Silk Company, Jim Thompson majority‑owned by Thais.

In 1967 Jim Thompson disappeared mysteriously while vacationing in Malaysia, yet the firm carried on growing from 100 employees at that time to more than 3,000 today.

Throughout the hotel you will find 6’000 original sculptures made by Roseline Granet. Even the door and window handles are sculptures. You’ll find them on the walls, hanging from the ceiling, in your room as well as the common areas. A truly unique touch to the Park Hyatt Paris – Vendome.

Roseline Granet is a Parisien born sculpture and painter. This month she will turn 86 years old but she still creates sculptures. Rumour has it the Hyatt have just commissioned her to make a few more sculptures for them.

It is thanks to Madonna some years ago that the hotel had an extra extra large double made to especially conform to her requirements. At over 2.3 meters wide I think it is safe to say it truly is the largest hotel bed in Europe.

Conclusion:

This was an unforgettable Birthday surprise and stay. We will certainly be back.

The Park Hyatt Paris – Vendome is currently my personal favourite hotel in Paris. Everyone was so friendly to us – it felt like making new friends throughout the hotel.
