It’s not every day that a Michelin star chef rushes outside to great you and help carry luggage to your room. This is however exactly what happened as we arrived at the Krone La Punt. British bornΒ James Baron and his Thai/Swiss wife Natacha have just arrived in Switzerland and are newly running the Krone La Punt. Subsequently googling James Baron I found him described as being Β both a Gentleman and Chef – totally fitting.
The Krone La Punt has a 450 year old history behind it. It has however been newly renovated in a super sweet alpine style – very fitting to the area. Situated in La Punt Chamues-ch, right at the bottom of the Albulapass and a mere 13.5 kms away from St Moritz makes the Krone La Punt a great place to stay and use as a base for exploring the Engadine area. Fun fact – La Punt Chamues-ch was nominated Swiss village of the year in 2021.
We were invited to the opening party this Saturday during which we devoured a fabulous selection of James’ signature dishes.

Michelin Star Chef James Baron Returns to Switzerland
Despite only being 37 years old James already has some incredible international experience behind him. Doing his apprenticeship in Petersfield at the Michelin star restaurant JSW. Β Then moving on to work at Didier de Courten a 2 Michelin star restaurant. His previous Swiss experience was with Andreas Caminada at Schloss Schauenstein (with 3 Michelin stars) . James met Natacha whilst working in St Anton am Arlberg, in Austria. Since November 2020 he was working at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong with 2 Michelin stars.
With a 3 year old daughter and another little one on the way both James and Natacha are super excited about their new adventure closer to home. We could really feel their excitement and enthusiasm over the weekend.
Here are a few pictures of what we ate during the evening party which lucky enough was warm enough to have outside in the hotel garden.

There is also a separate cosy lounge area fully decked with record player and selection of after dinner drinks.
In total there are 17 rooms in the hotel super cute (still) 3 star Hotel Krone La Punt. Ask for a room overlooking the river Inn and enjoy the sound of the water lulling you to sleep if you tilt your window open.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that this will not be the last time we visit James and Natacha at La Punt Chamues-ch!
