5 Steps to planning the perfect Summer brunch

How to plan the perfect Summer brunch

Hi Everyone,

Making brunch for guests during Summer months would have to be one of my most favourite ways of entertaining ever. From experience all it needs is a little planning, the mindset not to overthink the whole affair and a little sunshine!

This post outlines my simple planning tips to make sure you have the best brunch ever. One that is so easy to prepare you will want to only make brunches going forward – haha!

Keep reading for more about 5 Steps to planning the perfect Summer brunch.

5 Steps to planning the perfect Summer brunch

  1. Plan the menu a few days ahead.

Remember it’s brunch so it doesn’t have to be a warm cooked meal – especially in Summer! My favourite tip is fresh-bake bread and croissants. Put them in the oven so they will be ready 5 minutes before your guests are scheduled to arrive. The smell of lovely fresh croissants will put your guests in the best frame of mind the minute they walk through the door – promise.

These are my brunch staples:

  • selection of breads and croissants
  • Selection of jam and salted/non-salted butter options
  • cheese platter with nuts
  • fresh fruit salad
  • greek yoghurt topped with crunchy granola and berries
  • smoked salmon, capers and horseradish
  • a special home baked treat – today it’s a cherry frangipani pie (recipe to come next Sunday)
  • freshly pressed orange juice, coffee and plenty of water and bubbles.

2. Have some chilled music and a cute easy care outfit ready.

Chilled music always works to get the atmosphere going. It will also put you in a good mood whilst you’re preparing the brunch.

A cute outfit goes without saying. My favourites are cute flimsy dresses that can easily be thrown in the washing machine and hung to dry. A little boho number like the ones in a previous post work wonders!

Or for slightly fresher days I like my Marina Anouilh dress (pictured bellow).

3. Plan your table setting.

A stylish but durable table cloth is simply a must have in every household. My current favourite is this beautifulΒ Tekstiil Ruumis Fly Tablecloth. A beautiful natural Β textile woven Β out of a mix of cotton and linen. Perfect for outdoor or indoor entertaining. Available online here.

I love putting candles on the table outdoors and always have a few pretty flower and herb pots available to place at the ends of the table.

This year I also bought some wooden lace trivets – perfect for placing smaller bowls or hot pans on top.

4. Have a set of special outdoor compliant ceramics handy

You don’t want to use plastic and at the same time your regular indoor platters may be a bit delicate for the occasional gust of wind that may occur when outdoors. So it’s good to have some pretty outdoor compliant ceramics handy.

I have a small selection of concrete ceramics ready of outdoor entertaining – they make every table look pretty and at the same time are heavy enough to not tip and keep the table cloth in place even on windy mornings.

My favourites available online here.

5. Decide when you’ll do the shopping and then relax

Deciding when you’ll shop really is the final step. After that remember to relax and take a chilled approach when entertaining. Your guests will feel the vibes. Once all the above is planned you really don’t need to worry anymore – after all the whole point of entertaining at home is to have some fun.

You might even want to pour yourself a little glass of wine before the guests arrive just to get you in the mood – smile – just one though!
