Trends used to begin in the streets. But in the XXI century, when everyone has two not-so-distant lives (the real life and the online life), trends seem to begin in our instagram explore page. That´s where you can find the most popular posts with the latest styling tips and coolest accessories.
That´s also where you laugh at memes but I guess that´s not the subject here.
Instagram hasn’t been exactly my favorite place for several reasons but I must admit that when it comes to discover the latest trends and coolest brands, it’s my number 1 source. Finding small brands is basically the reason I ignore all those WhatsApp group messages *cof cof*
“So, Filipa, what shouldn’t we be missing?”
Glad you asked! Chances are, you´ve been seeing a lot of pearls and golden chains, a signficant ammount of shells and sea related accessories (hello, summer!) and hair clips. Lot´s of hair clips. Allow me to show you…
Don’t forget to leave a love note saying hi 🙂
EN I still remember the day I found out that, inside that ugly piece of furniture, a sewing machine was hidden. I knew my grandma used to sew a lot (and very well, for that matter) but always pictured her doing it in a boring plain white sewing machine, just like the ones I was used to seeing.
Imagine my surprise when the ugly brown piece of furniture opens and a beautiful sewing machine is revealed. It was an old black Singer with the most perfect golden details in perfect condition, almost like it was recently bought. Since that day, I never forgot her.
I learned that the original sewing machine had a cast iron treadle base before the ugly brown piece of furniture which I never got to see. For a child who loved to make clothes for her own dolls a real sewing machine was the symbol of a possible future hobby – maybe something more.
The years went by and the old Singer never came out of the brown piece of furniture again. It wasn’t certainly forgotten, though. My childhood memories preserved her and she was passed on to me. It was when I found out that it was dated from 1923 (which I found out here) and that 230.000k machines were fabricated that same year. It was also when I decided she was way too pretty to be hidden and made her the star of my new vanity.
P.s. I’m planning on painting the brown structure and adding a few shelves on the inside. I’ll keep you updated 🙂

…and by “the inside” I mean underwear. Wearing cool matching underwear always made me feel like I had everything in life together – even if it was just for a bit. Something about it that makes me feel great. Maybe it´s the hype about the Victoria Secret show maybe not. Either way, I´ll leave you with several options to take your underwear and nightwear to the streets 😉
We all have that special jewelry piece. Maybe you carry it every day around your neck or wrist. Your lucky charm. Bohème Jewelry is the perfect place in Lisbon to find that meaningful piece – either you want to gift yourself or receive the “friend of the month” award.
Located in the heart of Avenida da Liberdade, it´s a little monochromatic store with a huge variety of trendy and quality jewelry. The owner is super nice and gives the most honest advice on what looks good on you and plenty of cool ideas to style your pieces.
One of the reasons why I loved this little store so much was because of the variety of styles. Not only modern minimal pieces but also typical Portuguese jewelry. If you´re Portuguese I´m sure you´re familiar with Filigrana. If you´re not, let me introduce you to one of the prettiest techniques Portuguese jewelry has (you can see it right above this text).
As you might have already seen on my Instagram, I styled a few of my favorite pieces and I thought I´d only wear them during the summer but after a little Pinterest research
(like 3 hours because you know how these things work… you start with layering jewelry and you end up choosing the color scheme for your bedroom) I can´t wait to layer my delicate necklaces with cool knitwear. Plus, it was impossible to wear neck scarves and bandanas with necklaces during summertime – which is something that I love to do.
The last two pieces were the ones I kept. I think I might have used the Turkish eye the entire summer, sometimes layered with the crescent moon sometimes all by itself. As for the crescent moon, it was one of the most wanted summer necklaces and this one and its pretty details just had to be mine 🙂
Don´t forget to check Bohème Lisboa Instagram page and in case you decide to pay a visit to Lisbon, don´t forget to stop by!
This post was a collaboration with Bohème Lisboa. All opinions are my own.
(Now that was a long title) I guess it´s safe to say that I’ve been wearing on repeat several pieces that I now consider my personal must-haves.
When people who never notice anything fashion related start telling you that you´ve been wearing a lot the same pieces, I guess it´s safe to say that you´ve found your personal must-haves. I´ll probably be (over)packing them for summer vacations as well.
I must confess I´ve never seen so many different retro sunglasses in one season. Remember when EVERYONE had a pair of Ray Ban´s wayfarer? That was the time I got my Ray Ban´s Clubmaster. You know, ´cause someone had to be different. Next year everyone had them as well. That marked an entire season. But now we are assisting to a comeback of many different retro styles. From white round to colored lenses, that´s THE accessory to make you feel instantly cooler. Go on, re-create that Kurt Cobain iconic photo. My white sunnies are from Mango, they were love at first sight because they remind me of an old photo of my grandma wearing a very similar pair of sunnies.
This is probably the most Instagrammed (is this a word?) accessory of the season. I had this little round bag under my eyes for a while, hoping to get it on sales. She was nowhere to be seen online or in the stores. Then, on the most depressing day of my semester, I went to Zara and there she was. The last one on the shelf. We have been living happily ever since.
The bigger one I occasionally steal from my mom and style it with a scarf to match my outfit. I know it’s a classic beach bag, but since I´m not that much of a beach fan, I love wearing it in the city.
Why do you need a straw bag this summer? You can wear it everywhere unless you´re going to a cocktail party, it´s the easiest bag to style because it goes so well with all those typical summer clothes, you´ll never get bored of that bag because it´s seasonal.
I´m a hat person. It solves bad hair days, it gives that retro touch, it protects you from burning your brains in the summer and helps you face humidity during those awful rainy days. This is an old one from Natura and the black bow was a little DIY. Apart from a tracksuit, straw hats go with everything from tees&jeans to pretty dresses. Plus they add that instant “I’m on vacations” look.
Minimals will wear them with plain tees. Bold people with graphic prints. Either way, everyone is loving statement earrings (just read it here). Apart from getting stuck in my curls, I´m also a fan. Usually, I wear them with my hair up in a bun or ponytail and with basically everything. After seeing some of your inspiring photos on Instagram I decided I didn´t have enough earrings and bought the last pair on Bershka (I know, right? It was a surprise to me as well.).
You´ve seen them on my Instagram a lot and – spoiler alert – you will keep seeing them. More than earrings, during hot summer days there is nothing that I love more than wearing delicate necklaces. Most of the times I barely remember they´re hanging on my neck (which makes them perfect for this awful heat) yet they´re there, keeping me fashionable. This one was kindly sent to me by Aphrodite and it adds that cool boho chic vibe. I love the fact that it looks two necklaces yet it´s just one with layers.
And because you have to think outside the box, I styled it in two different ways. In the first one (as seen in the picture) I didn´t close the necklace clasp and just wrapped the necklace around my neck so it looks like a little choker and a bigger necklace. How to style delicate necklaces like a cool girl? Wear them with a tee, for sure. And make sure they´re not hiding. Also, summer necklines are perfect to show this kind of jewelry and the more the merrier.

I´d love to hear all about your accessories´ must haves and your opinion on mine, so see you in the comment section 😉

Last year I officially run out of space to study. I had so many books and notebooks around me that my tiny desk had to be replaced for a bigger one. But I’m sure you can guess what happened next… More space instantly meant more mess instead of decor goals. And that’s how my pretty corner desk became a law mess – definitely not Instagram worthy.
When Bonaval Store contacted me I knew it was time to finally arrange my workspace the way I always intended to.
Bonaval Concept Store is the perfect place to find unique pieces, something that’s quite hard nowadays. Everything from clothes and accessories both for men and women, home accessories, cosmetics, all from independent brands, definitely worth checking out.
I chose a Los Angeles print (created from an original Anna Bond illustration) and a beautiful golden frame (with a grid pattern developed on a theme by Albrecht Dürer) in stainless steel. These two pieces were my main inspirations to start decorating. As soon as they arrived, I defined my color scheme and my theme (yes, yes, I’m that kind of person).
Being a creative person who always surrounded herself with mood boards and sketches, I knew I wanted artwork around me and that LA illustration was the perfect fit. The colors, the vintage touch, that summer vibe, the palm trees, the beautiful car reminding me that I could look like Grace Kelly driving – but then again Princess Grace was so classy that the wind didn’t affect her at all….
The cactus print is not actually a print. It’s a kitchen cloth that I never really saw as a kitchen cloth (nor bought it to be one)… too pretty for that 😉
After realizing that I already had palm trees and cactus I felt super cool. But something was missing… pineapples (they’re to me what avocados are for Aimee Song). Lucky me, summer decorations are all about tropical stuff so I found some really cool glass candleholders with my beloved pineapples and a different one with city names.
My golden grid frame was what made me want all the other decor pieces in golden to contrast with my black desk. Bonaval Store has some of the most creative frames I’ve seen and the one I choose is so pretty and artsy that instead of putting a photo I opted for an old illustration I made.
Let me know your thoughts on my new workspace in the comment section 🙂
P.S. there is a 15% discount code and free shipping on Bonaval Store (dissecting15) just for you, valid until 31/08.
