This post was a collaboration with Swedish Stockings. The items were gifted. All opinions are my own.
Back in 2007 major style lessons were taught to young teens. Every time I heard Your one and only source into the scandalous life of Manhattans elite I knew I was about to see the latest trends and how to bravely style them. Being a major Blair fan I started to wonder why did I even question my mother when she told me that red tights were perfectly okay with tartan skirts.
Years have passed and recent trend reports as well as catwalk photos show me that it is time to put in practice every stocking style lesson I learned. Should we thank Gucci for invading instagram with its patterned hosiery? I should think so, yes.
But now the real world part of this major trend… The textile industry is the second most polluting industry in the world. If you’re anything like me, you might have been contributing to this waste, specially when it comes to hosiery. Why? Well, tights and socks always seemed to be a one use only garment due to poor quality (note that lack of quality doesn’t necessarily mean cheap hosiery), ready to be thrown away after the first ripped mesh. Sure I used nail polish for minor incidents, sure some of them lasted a bit longer. Not many. Still a waste. To make everything worst I might just be one of the very few people who thinks jeans are not that comfy so skirts, dresses, pants are my safe comfy option. Meaning I have a drawer filled with folded hosiery which is constantly being updated due to lack of quality. So allow me to introduce you to Swedish Stockings, a sustainable brand well aware of how hosiery is a wasteful business.
A BIT ABOUT SWEDISH STOCKINGS
They’re the only sustainable hosiery brand in the world. They create their pantyhose from both pre and post-consumer nylon waste. The production process is a lot less harmful to the environment than traditional nylon production and they are consistently looking for innovative and cleaner ways to produce. They also have a recycling program, meaning they receive your old stockings from other brands and give you a discount code to buy new ones. Thousands of stockings have been recycled thanks to their recycling program. Pretty cool, right?
As for my looks, I had a lot of fun playing with colors, textures and prints. When it comes to hosiery you have endless options. Personally I don’t like seeing short net socks with jeans, I prefer them with pants (but this is a matter of personal style). Over the knee socks will always be a favorite of mine. Got those Clueless vibes and they´re a (good) journey to the 90´s, what’s not to love? You can wear them with over the knee boots and barely letting them show, with heels or flats. I only avoid wearing them with Chelsea boots since I don’t like to see the different lengths. When it comes to opaque tights, what I love the most is to play color block. Create your own color scheme and play with contrasts.
ARE THEY WORTH BUYING?
In my opinion, they are. Specially the tights. I was really impressed with the fabrics´ quality (and trust me, I tested it all because I’m a mess when it comes to hosiery). If you take good care of them I believe they’ll last longer than the usual.
Are you into this FW trend? What’s your favorite? Let me know all about it below 🙂
It’s all over Instagram and Daniel Lee, Bottega Veneta’s creative director, is the one to blame. He’s responsible for the Italian brand revitalization and for making the pouch bag the it bag of the season. By giving an edgy touch to classic pieces, Daniel Lee brought Bottega Veneta back to the spotlight and made street style way more practical without neglecting elegance. Most of the trendiest pieces are already sold out but one thing is for sure – the pouch bag promises to fit way more than your house keys, a clear contrast with Jacquemus’ tiny creation.
Trends used to begin in the streets. But in the XXI century, when everyone has two not-so-distant lives (the real life and the online life), trends seem to begin in our instagram explore page. That´s where you can find the most popular posts with the latest styling tips and coolest accessories.
That´s also where you laugh at memes but I guess that´s not the subject here.
Instagram hasn’t been exactly my favorite place for several reasons but I must admit that when it comes to discover the latest trends and coolest brands, it’s my number 1 source. Finding small brands is basically the reason I ignore all those WhatsApp group messages *cof cof*
“So, Filipa, what shouldn’t we be missing?”
Glad you asked! Chances are, you´ve been seeing a lot of pearls and golden chains, a signficant ammount of shells and sea related accessories (hello, summer!) and hair clips. Lot´s of hair clips. Allow me to show you…
Don’t forget to leave a love note saying hi 🙂

When I first wrote about the Pajama Trend I knew I was dying to try it – I mean, going out in your pj and look that good, for real? What a dream. But I never found THE right one. So I never got to style that trend. That is, of course, until now.
When the opportunity to collaborate with Silk By Nancy came I knew right away I had to choose this white pj shirt. It was the missing luxurious monochromatic piece I was looking for to rock the PJ trend.
The title says it all: this silk beauty is the perfect fit. I´m not going to lie, it was hard styling this shirt. I blame the crazy amount of outfit options I came up with. Everything from culottes to palazzo pants and pleated skirts. Sneakers and stilettos. That´s why – SPOILER ALERT – this is not the last time you´ll be seeing this shirt around here. Allow me to be your guide on “How To Style The PJ trend – round 2” and reveal the secrets you need to know to go out in public wearing your pj´s.
As a monochrome lover, I felt like I owed to the monochromatic Gods this first look. I went for high waist mom jeans to give the edgy touch and contrast with the classy shirt. The pumps are my all time favorite (bought them using a wedding as an excuse) and the only pop of color that this outfit needed. Besides from the lipstick (always add lipstick. Makes everything better). And because I always need to have a bit of print, a starry scarf.
In a world where you can´t walk down the street without finding someone wearing something that you also have (or worst, that you are wearing), brands like Silk By Nancy make you feel unique again. For someone who is slowly building a wardrobe with quality pieces, I must confess: a silk piece is a must have. Too soft, too luxurious, too stylish. Make sure you stop by and check their variety of silk pieces.
Aw, don´t I look happy wearing my pj shirt? 🙂 How about you, what´s your relation with this Pj trend and silk luxurious pieces?
This post was made in collaboration with Silk By Nancy. All opinions are my own.
(Now that was a long title) I guess it´s safe to say that I’ve been wearing on repeat several pieces that I now consider my personal must-haves.
When people who never notice anything fashion related start telling you that you´ve been wearing a lot the same pieces, I guess it´s safe to say that you´ve found your personal must-haves. I´ll probably be (over)packing them for summer vacations as well.
I must confess I´ve never seen so many different retro sunglasses in one season. Remember when EVERYONE had a pair of Ray Ban´s wayfarer? That was the time I got my Ray Ban´s Clubmaster. You know, ´cause someone had to be different. Next year everyone had them as well. That marked an entire season. But now we are assisting to a comeback of many different retro styles. From white round to colored lenses, that´s THE accessory to make you feel instantly cooler. Go on, re-create that Kurt Cobain iconic photo. My white sunnies are from Mango, they were love at first sight because they remind me of an old photo of my grandma wearing a very similar pair of sunnies.
This is probably the most Instagrammed (is this a word?) accessory of the season. I had this little round bag under my eyes for a while, hoping to get it on sales. She was nowhere to be seen online or in the stores. Then, on the most depressing day of my semester, I went to Zara and there she was. The last one on the shelf. We have been living happily ever since.
The bigger one I occasionally steal from my mom and style it with a scarf to match my outfit. I know it’s a classic beach bag, but since I´m not that much of a beach fan, I love wearing it in the city.
Why do you need a straw bag this summer? You can wear it everywhere unless you´re going to a cocktail party, it´s the easiest bag to style because it goes so well with all those typical summer clothes, you´ll never get bored of that bag because it´s seasonal.
I´m a hat person. It solves bad hair days, it gives that retro touch, it protects you from burning your brains in the summer and helps you face humidity during those awful rainy days. This is an old one from Natura and the black bow was a little DIY. Apart from a tracksuit, straw hats go with everything from tees&jeans to pretty dresses. Plus they add that instant “I’m on vacations” look.
Minimals will wear them with plain tees. Bold people with graphic prints. Either way, everyone is loving statement earrings (just read it here). Apart from getting stuck in my curls, I´m also a fan. Usually, I wear them with my hair up in a bun or ponytail and with basically everything. After seeing some of your inspiring photos on Instagram I decided I didn´t have enough earrings and bought the last pair on Bershka (I know, right? It was a surprise to me as well.).
You´ve seen them on my Instagram a lot and – spoiler alert – you will keep seeing them. More than earrings, during hot summer days there is nothing that I love more than wearing delicate necklaces. Most of the times I barely remember they´re hanging on my neck (which makes them perfect for this awful heat) yet they´re there, keeping me fashionable. This one was kindly sent to me by Aphrodite and it adds that cool boho chic vibe. I love the fact that it looks two necklaces yet it´s just one with layers.
And because you have to think outside the box, I styled it in two different ways. In the first one (as seen in the picture) I didn´t close the necklace clasp and just wrapped the necklace around my neck so it looks like a little choker and a bigger necklace. How to style delicate necklaces like a cool girl? Wear them with a tee, for sure. And make sure they´re not hiding. Also, summer necklines are perfect to show this kind of jewelry and the more the merrier.

I´d love to hear all about your accessories´ must haves and your opinion on mine, so see you in the comment section 😉
Disclaimer: the necklace was given to me by Aphrodite. Styling and opinions are my own.
The One. A million things pop into your head when you read these two words. The love of life, probably. But when it comes to fashion, we all have THE one. THE cozy stylish sweater you wear on and on, THE silk scarf that makes any outfit better, THE pair of shoes that make your day brighter. As most you know, THE accessory for me is a bag. Bags are my weakness and my bags are probably THE accessory that I keep impeccable storage. Each of them brings me such joy and reminds me of all the times I snapped at someone who dared to put my bag on the floor. You see, I take that “table for 3: you, me and my bag” very seriously.
When Farfetch contacted me and told me about their newest magazine, The Style Guide, I immediately started going through the amazing editorial content and, inspired by this article, I bring you my favorite bags of the season and will reveal to you my #THEONE. The choice wasn´t hard, it was love at first sight. Can you guess it? Hint: She hides between the beautiful European architecture 🙂
How about you? Did you pick your The One for this summer? Make sure you check Farfetch’s digital magazine. It’s a must see either you’re looking for the latest trends or just deciding what to wear. As always, I’m looking forward to knowing your opinion so meet me in the comment section! 🙂
Welcome to part II! You didn´t really think that I would leave you with only six trends to style for the entire season, did you?
I can´t really name more feminine fabrics than Silk, Lace, and Chiffon. Surprisingly, there isn´t anything more versatile to style. It´s all about your mood. Feeling girly or looking for the perfect occasion dress? Style it with some fancy heeled sandals or lace-up flats, put on a beautiful straw hat, grab a little bag and it´s almost like you´re having the time of your life in Mykonos 😉
As for me, I prefer something a little edgier (and Maria Grazia Chiuri somehow read my mind!). Maxi and midi fancy skirts and graphic tees are officially one of my favorite Spring combinations (mostly midi skirts, so that you can give the proper attention to your shoes). Frayed and ripped jeans also look pretty good with lace and see-through tops. If you don´t think this is edgy enough, you know what to do. Grab a moto jacket and put it on your shoulders 🙂
I blame it on the winter layers. It was such a big and fun trend that nobody wanted to leave it in the closet waiting for next Autumn/Winter. Deconstructed pieces are everywhere (you can find some really cool tees and dresses on Asos) and the trick is how to layer them. Starters Kit: try an oversized shirt with a mini skirt. Your goal is to let everybody know that you didn´t forget to hide the bottom of the shirt inside your skirt.
Gone are the days when double denim was an awful style mistake. DD is back and for the first time since I saw Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wearing it (I was a child and I had nightmares), I actually want to try this trend. These days denim isn´t just denim anymore. It has pearls, pretty embroidery, ruffles, everything you can think of. It doesn´t even come in just blue. And that´s how creative designers saved double denim. Tip: Try adding a pop of color with your shoes or accessories (like a neck scarf, for example).
Do I really need to say this one is my all time favorite trend? Endless possibilities of mix and match different prints… I can guarantee you you´ll be seeing a lot more of graphic clothes on my Instagram page. Tip: statement jewelry creates an even bigger contrast. That and neck scarves. You can see how I usually wear it here and here.
Attention to all the minimalists out there. You can now have your monochromatic Sring/Summer! Gingham, polka dots, stripes, leaves, everything comes in black and white and I can´t honestly think of a more classic and sophisticated combo. If you think it´s too boring (how dare you! 😉 try to add a pop of color with your accessories.
Flowers for spring. The trend is as big as the cliché. But just look how perfectly it works! I always mix floral prints with monochrome stripes. To me, it´s the most visually appealing combination of prints. You might have seen on my instagram how much I’m loving florals because of this kimono. Last summer I wore it a lot with high waist jeans and this swimsuit .
We´re officially done with trends but you can count on more SS17 reports because I still have a lot to show you. As always, I´d love to know your favorites and how are you going to style them so see you in the comment section 😉
It´s that time of the year again. Allergies slowly start taking control of your life. Bugs everywhere. It´s too hot for ¾ sleeves yet too cold for off-shoulders. I´d gladly skip Spring if it wasn´t for new clothes and accessories. Stores looking as bright as ever for the first time in months. The endless possibilities of new outfits and the return of old friends kept in the closet for so long. Brace yourselves for a series of posts giving you all the info you need to create the best SS outfits.
Spring Summer 17 is a voyage through different decades: a bit of fanciness from the 40´s, something from the 70´s, a lot from the 80´s, a touch of 90´s. Sounds at least eclectic, right? But you´ll be surprised to see how it all blends in.
There is nothing more feminine than a tea dress and Miuccia Prada sure knows it. Bringing the 40´s shape back with other decade´s prints, it´s easily styled with classic colorful coats and fancy loafers. If you´re thinking irreverent, try wear them with some cool sneakers. If you´re feeling classy, lace up shoes are always a good option.
Think about Bianca Jagger and her white blazer. Now think about David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust. Feeling enough inspired already? So now we can talk about how shoulder pads are back and how cool will it be to style them. Make sure you know your proportions to understand what will suit you better because shoulder pads are pretty cool but also tricky to style. I usually avoid blazers with that kind of shoulders but I love cropped tops with bold shoulders. Here´s a little tip: when using shoulder pads try to pair them with something that marks your waistline (like a belt over a blazer, for example).
Are they ever not a trend? There is something so visually appealing about metallics that makes us own at least a metallic piece each season, don´t you think? Metallic pieces allow you to play with different fabrics. Personally, I like to wear them with silk and lace pieces. I got a pleated midi skirt on sales last season (which you might have seen if you´re following me on Instagram) and I’m sure “she” will be a conversation starter the whole season.
Typically, you´d wear sequined dresses, tops, and even pants during the night, right? Think again. Creative directors and brands invite you to shine all day. For a more casual look, you can pair your shiny pieces with denim and sneakers or loafers.
Having a tendency for darker colors, this SS may just be a turning point for me. If, just like me, you always end up buying something black, take a look at Spring collections. You´ll realize bold colors are here to stay. It´s up to you to mix a bright yellow with black and stay in your comfort zone. But we all know the fun happens outside that zone so if you´re feeling up to a change, try mixing that strong red with pink. Just remember that you make the rules, so if you like the visual impact that the oddest color scheme creates, go for it.
P.S. Gradient color schemes or one colored outfits are always a good option if you´re looking for something less visual impacting in terms of contrast. You´ll get extra style points if you play with different fabrics.
Time to set your inner Sandy (the “Tell me about it, stud” version, of course!) free. Parkas and moto jackets. Lots of spikes. Studs. Perfect for styling with fishnets, graphic tees and for a more preppy look, floral dresses. It´s time to take your Doc Martens and Converse from the closet. But you know what else would look cool with all these 90´s pieces? Lace up shoes and a pair of edgy ballerinas.
So, any favorites so far? Let me know in the comment section how will you be styling these trends! Stay tuned for Part II 😉
