Fall/Winter 16/17 Shoes

Like I told you on the first trend report, this Fall collections have too much information. Maximalism strikes again and you can spot its trace elements both on the clothes and accessories. I´ll be showing you what I believe to be the essential shoes for this season on this trend report and the next one will have all the accessories. Please note that it´s not my fault. Personally, I blame creative directors. The creative process of every important fashion house was just remarkable this Fall/Winter. I, of course, was a victim.

Loafers

It was Fall 2015 and Alessandro Michele had a perfect vision for Gucci. The loafers emerged and they´re not going anywhere anytime soon. If there´s any versatile shoe for this Fall, it´s the loafer. So, have you picked yours?

Flat Slides

You´ve already seen them during summer and even last Fall. I must say I have mixed feelings when it comes to flat slides because I don´t find them that comfortable or practical. But i´ll tell you if this relationship makes any progresses. A piece of advice: don´t run while wearing them.

Mid-heel Shoes

Also known as “Granny Shoes” and definitely a very possible acquisition for this season. I find them very comfortable and super stylish, perfect to wear with frilled jeans and a cozy oversized knit (you know, for those days when you don´t want to put much thought on what you´re going to wear).

Ballerina Shoes

I didn´t love ballet very much when I practiced it but I did like my ballerina shoes very much and used to wear them around the house. You can transport yourself back to your childhood days with a classier version of ballerinas or an edgier one. Blame it on Miu Miu. As for my Bimba y Lola edgy ballet shoes, I find them perfect to wear with culottes.

Mary-Janes

The classic. Is there anything more feminine than a good pair of Mary-Jane´s? Again, a good reminder of your childhood days. And because velvet is one of the main Fall fabrics, if you want a win-win situation, find yourself a pair of these in velvet. If you´re able to find something that goes terribly wrong with Mary-Janes, please let me know. I haven´t so far. P.s. a tracksuit doesn´t count. We´ll talk about athleisure later.

Ankle Boots

I know, I know. But history tends to repeat itself. So ankle boots are a thing, again. But this time the ankle boot trend comes bolder. You can choose from a huge variety of prints and play mix&match with your outfits now more than ever. If you´re not much of a bold prints kind of person, you still have lots of options: pvc, suede, velvet… everything with only one color or a little statement on the heel. Can you guess which one I daydream about? 😉

Essential Summer Trends to Pack

Trouble packing – who doesn’t have it? I certainly do…I know I need to pack light but the fear of forgetting something tempts me every time I look at my suitcase. This post is your (and mine!) ultimate guide to pack summer essentials (and by that I mean the latest summer trends) and combine them. The main goal? Being able to close the suitcase without sitting on top of it. So grab a post-it and take as many notes as you need cause I’ve prepared a selection of very ‘instagramable’ pieces.

Bikini & Swimsuit

Two very easy things to pack that will allow you to create some very stylish outfits. The swimsuit can easily be transformed into a body that you can wear with shorts, jeans, flare pants or maxi skirts. Your creativity is your limit. I own several swimsuits (i´m guilty of finding them very flattering and elegant pieces, much more than bikinis) and frequently wear them out.

As for the bikinis, this season (just like last year) it´s difficult to understand the difference between some bikini tops and a crop top. Maybe it´s the universe telling you to wear your bikini top with high waist pants and spare a little extra room in your suitcase.

Hats

Just a quick question… How do you pack your hats?

Crochet and Lace

I´m a big fan of anything crochet (except for ugly granny-style cloths) and lace so some of my favorite cover ups are beautiful see-through pieces that you´ll want to wear both on the beach and to go out on warm summer nights or even during daytime. It will all depend on how you style them. I usually go for jeans and denim shorts and add some cool wedges instead of flats.

Meet my Pull&Bear crochet swimsuit that I often use as a body. Paired it with high jeans from Mango, a Fossil watch and Raybans.

Sets, Light Dresses & Jumpsuits

Matchy-matchy is a thing. And what better way to do it than wear a two-piece? If you feel like wearing it together, do it. If you don´t, congratulations! You just won two more different outfits 😉

A wise man once said “a jumpsuit a day makes you forget that you´re having a bad hair day”. Ok, it wasn´t a wise man. It was me. But it has been my motto when it comes to bad hair days. Just tie your hair in a cute up-do or a high pony-tail and the attentions will all go straight to the jumpsuit.

Light dresses, silk dresses, slip dresses, everything that you usually take to the beach with flip-flops but can also wear daily with gladiator sandals or at night with heels. Again, the power of good accessories will amaze you and help you transform your outfits throughout the day.

Off-Shoulders

The biggest and most-seen-on-social-media trend (check this post for some cool ideas to wear off-shoulders) is also the most versatile. The trick, once again, it´s to master your accessory game. I´ve made a small chart to give you some ideas to improve any off-shoulders look and take it to another level (those levels being the beach, a casual night out, a daily outfit, or an occasion that requires shiny jewelry).

Espadrilles

Flats and wedges. Pack them both. Why? See all the other trends above.

Cosmopolitan Chic

For this post I bring you the Cosmopolitan Chic challenge – If I were to spend a day at Cosmopolitan Las Vegas , what would my outfit options be?

What would I wear to brunch, dinner at a fancy restaurant (being my favorite Italian food I couldn´t help but notice how perfect this one would be) and a night out with friends at the Marquee night club?

Keeping in mind it is Vegas and the concept of transitional outfits my first thoughts were about the colors – I wanted black (of course!) and pastels for the clothing and bold colors on the accessories – the emerald green, the dark red, gold.

The common pieces were the leather crop top and the coat.

On both outfits I played with the different fabrics and textures in order to create a sophisticated contrast.

SECOND SET
LA - day to night 2
For this second set I thought about a more irreverent daytime outfit. And because an LBD can never disappoint you the common piece is precisely the Little Black Dress.

Midi Skirts

Inspired by this post from Lena, and this one from Dana, I decided it was time to chose the perfect midi-skirt. While last summer (and even autumn/winter) was all about long skirts, this fall we Started to see mini skirts, in a sixties throwback and – the most elegant one – The mid-length skirt.
It appeared paired with oversized sweaters, large knitwear, heels and sneakers, giving the outfits an elegant touch and capturing attentions both on the streets and runways. It can be straight, pencil shaped or pleated or whatever you want it to be.
For what I’m concerned, this could be another never ending trend – though I still haven’t found the perfect midi. And this time it comes with all the comfort you need in your daily routine!
