FW15 – The Return of Maximalism

After a few seasons of Pinterest boards full of minimalistic designs and outfits, FW15 is finally here ready to give you everything you need to know how to create your very own personalized closet. Truth be told, there´s a wide range of options and different styles for every type of person (from punk and edgy with Saint Laurent and McQueen´s Victorian mood to Burberry Prorsum and Chloé´s folk). So, my first advice? Because clothes shouldn´t dictate your personality (and these FW15 pieces really do seem to have gained their own), just decide who you want to be. Follow your most fashionable instincts. Remember that patterned and colorful mini skirt you thought you could never mix with an equally beautiful patterned blouse and lots of accessories? You should definitely try it on. Pretend you´re 5 again and play that dress-up game you used to. My second advice? When in lack of inspiration, go spy on your muses – and I´m not only talking about that secret instagram crush we all have… Dig deeper and watch again those old movies that used to inspire you, that book character you always felt connected with, that tv show where you first had your heart broken by a bag (or an handsome male/female intriguing and mysterious character).

In the end, you must feel audacious, leave the rules behind you and say: “Welcome back, Maximalism. I´m ready to give you a tight hug”.

Statement Piece – The Watch

When it comes to accessories you must have noticed that I have a passion for watches – you can see one of my favorites on my Instagram. Not only I own a small collection of watches but I also like to keep an eye on new ones to see if I discover my next passion. It is a very personal accessory (I must confess, I use it more as a fashion and sentimental piece rather than timekeeping). So recently I found Invaluable, a live auction marketplace, full of designer watches – you can go from Cartier to Rolex and you won´t get bored. I immediately got inspired to create a few outfits using some of those watches because though I love a good small woman watch I´ve always preferred a more masculine piece to contrast with my outfits and stand out (you can´t deny a good man´s watch looks perfect with fine woman jewelery and elegant clothes!).

Casual Outfit

For the first one I wanted to go simple but classy. I decided to incorporate a few trends (3 of my favorites from Winter, to be honest): the large sweater used with over the knee boots and a contrasting hat. It´s that simple outfit you can always wear when in doubt. For this outfit the perfect watch was this lovely Cartier. The colors, the details and the retro look mixed with small woman bracelets give the perfect touch to the outfit. collab1 watches collab1

A day at the office

When it comes to working clothes – besides of my obvious tendency to black and white outfits, you´ll have to excuse me! – I chose an even bigger watch. It gives the shining touch, the fierce of the outfit. And, once again, it contrasts perfectly with the feminine lines and padrons. This one is a Rolex (one of my dreams, actually).

Night Out

Why neglect a good watch when going out? There´s no way the outfit could be complete! This time the only jewels are the earrings and the Rolex – you don´t want too much on the same outfit. From all the watches I´ve seen this is definitely my favorite – the simplicity, the color, the size, all perfect.

New Years Eve Inspiration

First of all, hope you had an amazing Christmas 🙂

Every New Year´s Eve I have the same problem – what to wear. Should I pick a dress or a great pair of trousers? Do I want glitter on my clothes or not? And what a about the accessories and the shoes?

This year first inspirational board includes what I loved the most about 2014 when it comes to clothes and trends – metallics, black and white contrast, midi-skirts and crops.

I hope you find it helpful!

BTW – the picture was created via Polyvore App (apparently I had an account and never used it!).

Camel – the trending color

Mostly seen on coats – and specially oversized coats, this is THE color. Reminds me of Chloé pastels, Burberry mythical trench coat and definitely makes me think about autumn and why I prefer cold weather. What I like about  this never ending color trend, is the way you can look sophisticated and yet irreverent (imagine a camel oversized coat, white sneakers, black suit trousers and a black shirt). The creative touch is everything when it comes to fashion, so try and add something different to your camel outfit!

60´s

Jane Fonda. Brigitte Bardot. Jane Birkin. Françoise Hardy. Edie Sedgwick. Miuccia Prada. Twiggy. I could go on, but I believe you got the idea. They´re all revolutionary women from the glourious 60´s. They all took big risks when decided to wear miniskirts, large sweaters instead of dresses, bold makeup (think about marvelous Twiggy and her eyes) big boots or flats. The A-line dresses and the crazy prints. The colors. It was all or nothing. The feminine sillouette was changing, becoming more feminine and irreverent.

Although you can see this 60´s trend in my previous posts (for e.g. the miniskirt, fall trends or the faux fur coat) I´ve decided to do one really focused on the 60´s, with my personal inspirations (not only related to the fashion industry).

The faux fur coat

At first, it reminded me of my grandmother looks. The long fur coat. And I immediately knew I had to have one! I already had several faux fur vests, and I didn’t want anything related to real fur (it makes me sick, just the idea of having a real fur coat), so it was a very difficult choice. I realized I couldn’t pick only one fur jacket – the small ones would be great paired with jeans, but the long ones would make a great skirt outfit – so I told my mum to choose one. She picked a small one, beige with leather beige details. But that was last winter… A few weeks ago, when I decided I was emotionally prepared to take a look at Zara fall/winter ’14 collection, my previous thoughts returned.
Whenever I think of a faux fur coat, I think about something to keep for many many years in my closet, so I believe it is a good investment. Also, I’m a person who dislikes wearing too many clothes at the same time, especially when winter comes, so I always chose a really warm coat to use only with a shirt or a blouse underneath.

brand – TITLE A

There´s a trend that, from time to time, appears – not only in clothing, but also in accessories; make-up; hairstyles.. we´re talking about tomboys, and the tomboy trend. You can find it in this fall winter sweaters, loafers, small boots, boyfriend jeans, some leather pieces. It´s the way you can mix the pieces that makes me a fan of this trend – one day you can wear a large sweater with skinny jeans and loafers and another day you can use that exact same sweater with a mini skirt and boots.

We´re talking about a trend that we learned to copy from people like Charlotte Gainsbourg or Jane Birkin. We´re talking about a particular model named Agyness Deyn, and her clothing line – TITLE A. If you think about Agyness, you immediately associate her to what I just described. Knowing her work and especially her style, I immediately knew it had to be great!
